CE requirements (as of 7/1/14)

The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency requires real estate brokers and managing brokers to complete continuing education every year. As REALTORS® you must complete Code of Ethics as well. See below for details, deadlines & explanation. 

Real estate brokers requirements include:

  • 12 hours of CE between July 1 - June 30 each year
  • No mandatory or elective credits
  • License renewal occurs every three years 

Real estate managing brokers requirements include:

  • 12 hours of CE between July 1 - June 30 each year
  • 4 credits of your 12 must be managing broker credit approved courses
  • License renewal occurs every three years 
    • Upcoming renewal deadline (June 30, 2017)
    • See calendar for latest class schedule (look for MGBRCR)
    • Online CE option, discount codes available

New real estate licensees (licensed on or after July 1, 2014):

  • Must complete a 30-Hour Post Licensing Course within two years of obtaining license
  • Example for further clarification: Jim’s broker license was issued on August 15, 2014. He has until August 15, 2016 to complete the 30 hours of post licensing education. He was initially licensed in the July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015 CE year. He is not required to complete regular continuing education during this year. The next two (2) CE years (July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016 and July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017), he is also not required to complete the regular continuing education. The first CE year that he will have to complete regular continuing education is the July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018 CE year. Jim will need to complete 12 hours of CE between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018 and each year to follow.


Code of Ethics requirements:

  • REALTORS® are required to complete ethics training of not less than 2 hours, 30 minutes of instructional time within four-year cycles. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®. 
  • The next cycle will end Dec. 31, 2018.
  • Future cycles will include more frequency.
    • January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018
    • January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020

The REALTOR® Party speaks with one voice to advance candidates and public policies that build strong communities and promote a vibrant business environment.

Locally, our elected officials are making decisions that have a huge impact on our daily lives and it’s for this reason the GNIAR RPAC Trustees have taken great care in deciding which candidates to endorse and financially support. 

They met and interviewed candidates in multiple races throughout our six (6) county territory of Lake, Porter, Newton, Jasper, Starke and Pulaski counties.  Those they have chosen to endorse and financially support for re-election/election in the 2016 General Election on November 8, 2016 are as follows:

Lake County Commissioner, District 2
Gerry Scheub (Incumbent) - $3,000 (Primary) $2,000 (General)

Lake County Commissioner, District 3
Mike Repay (REALTOR®, Incumbent) - $3,000 (Primary) $500 (General)

Porter County Council-at-Large
Dan Whitten (Incumbent) - $2,000 (General)

Jasper County Commissioner
District 2 Kendell Culp (Incumbent) - $1,500 (General)

Pulaski County Commissioner
District 1 Derrick Stalbaum - $1,000 (General)

What is GNIAR?

committee3Welcome to the home for Greater Northwest Indiana Association of REALTORS®. Thank you for visiting our site.

While, GNIAR is a member driven Association, we strive to be the voice for real estate in Northwest Indiana. Not only do we give the public the tools to search for a properties for sale online through our Multiple Listing Service, but we hope to become your resource for all things real estate related from finding a REALTOR® to open houses in the area. 

GNIAR represents more than 1,900 members in nearly 500 offices in Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton, Starke and Pulaski Counties. We also serve several hundred from LaPorte County, IN; Cook County, IL and Southwestern Michigan. Who belongs to GNIAR you may ask? Well, primarily real estate brokers and appraisers. We also have what we call Affiliate members composed of banks, mortgage companies, title companies, inspection firms and other businesses involved in real estate transactions.

Our members represent all aspects of real estate from residential to real estate development. GNIAR is only the local component of belonging to a REALTOR® Association. Our members are also part of the Indiana Association of REALTORS® (IAR – 16,000+ members) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), which has more than one million members.

Our members abide by a strict code of ethics and have access to a wide variety of business services that are not available to non-REALTORS. This gives them a competitive edge in the marketplace, enabling them to provide superior services to buyers and sellers of real property.
